Treatments and results
What is Botox?
Botox® is an FDA-approved injectable treatment that temporarily relaxes targeted facial muscles responsible for expression lines and wrinkles. It is commonly used to soften forehead lines, frown lines, crow’s feet, and other areas while maintaining a natural appearance.
What is Dysport?
Dysport® is another FDA-approved wrinkle relaxer that works similarly to Botox. Some patients notice results slightly sooner, and it may spread a little more in larger treatment areas. During your consultation, we’ll help determine which product is best for your goals.
How do Botox and Dysport work?
Both medications temporarily block the nerve signals that cause muscles to contract. When those muscles relax, the overlying skin appears smoother, reducing the appearance of wrinkles while helping prevent new lines from becoming more noticeable.
How long does the appointment take?
Most appointments take 20–30 minutes, including your consultation, treatment, and post-treatment instructions.
Does Botox hurt?
Most patients describe the injections as a quick pinching sensation. The needles used are extremely small, and discomfort is minimal. If you’re concerned, we can discuss options to help make you more comfortable.
When will I see results?
Botox typically begins working within 3–5 days, with full results appearing around 10–14 days.
Dysport may begin working in 2–3 days, with full results generally visible within 10–14 days.
How long do results last?
Most patients enjoy results for 3–4 months, although this varies depending on the treatment area, metabolism, muscle strength, and individual response.
How many units will I need?
Every patient is different. Common treatment ranges include forehead 10–20 units, frown lines (11s) 20–25, crow’s feet 12–24, bunny lines 4–8, lip flip 4–8, chin 4–8, and masseters 20–40 units per side if treated.
Your provider will recommend the appropriate dose during your consultation based on your facial anatomy and desired outcome.
Will I still be able to move my face?
Yes. Our goal is to create a refreshed, natural appearance — not a frozen look. We customize every treatment based on your facial anatomy and aesthetic goals.
Safety, side effects and aftercare
Is Botox safe?
Botox and Dysport have been used safely for many years and are FDA-approved when administered by qualified healthcare professionals. As with any medical procedure, there are potential risks and side effects, which your provider will review with you before treatment.
Who should not receive Botox or Dysport?
You should not receive treatment if you:
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have certain neuromuscular disorders
- Have an active infection at the injection site
- Have had an allergic reaction to botulinum toxin products or their ingredients
Your provider will review your medical history to determine whether treatment is appropriate.
What should I do before my appointment?
To help reduce bruising:
- Stay well hydrated.
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours if possible.
- If approved by your healthcare provider, avoid aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, fish oil, vitamin E, and other blood-thinning supplements for several days before treatment.
- Arrive with clean skin free of heavy makeup when possible.
Never stop prescription medications unless directed by the healthcare professional who prescribed them.
What should I avoid after treatment?
For the first 24 hours, we recommend:
- Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas.
- Avoid strenuous exercise.
- Avoid excessive heat, including hot tubs and saunas.
- Avoid lying completely flat for approximately 4 hours after treatment unless your provider gives different instructions.
- Follow any additional aftercare instructions provided by your injector.
What are the possible side effects?
Common side effects include mild redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness, and small bumps at the injection site. These effects are usually temporary and resolve within a few days. Less common but more serious complications will be discussed during your informed consent process.
What if I don’t like my results?
Botox and Dysport gradually wear off over time. If adjustments are appropriate, your provider will discuss available options during a follow-up evaluation.
